History

Presumably, this area has been inhabited since at least 1000BC. For a long time, the area has predominantly been agricultural. Heeze village was home to many home-weavers. In the second half of the 19th century, these developed into weaving factories. Nowadays, the area also has small business parks.

There are some things to do in the area:

  • Every year, at the end of August, Heeze hosts a cultural festival called “Brabantsedag”.
  • Several monuments can be found and visited in the area.
  • Castle Heeze is one of the last inhabited castles of the Netherlands. It has been built in 1655AD.
  • Also, some churches can be found in this community. Some are over 500 years old.
  • The windmill with the highest belt can be found in the area; the “Bergkorenmolen”.
  • Several pine forests can be visited throughout the year, as well as several meres.

Fun facts:

  • Heeze has been known as a place for recovery from optic deficits, due to a minister helping with eye problems in the 19th century.
  • Leende is called “Blaosdonk” during “Carnaval”.
